How to set up a Holux GPSlim236 with TomTom 6

I use my MDA setup below to.

TomTom 6 Navigator software

1) First thing to do is ensure that you have your GPS and PDA/Phone turned on. Click on Wireless Manager icon bottom right of the Today page.	2) Now you can see what services you have running, if you do not currently have Bluetooth on it will be faded out. Tap on the Bluetooth symbol below to activate Bluetooth.	3) Now that we have turned on Bluetooth we need to setup our Bluetooth GPS. Please ensure that your Holux GPSlim is turned on at this point. Tap on settings and tap on Bluetooth Settings	4) As you can see there is a tick in at Turn on Bluetooth, Tap on Make this device discoverable to other devices. Now click on Devices tab at the bottom of the screen.


5) At this point double to check to ensure that your GPS is turned on. Tap on where it says New Partnership, this will then browse for any Bluetooth enabled devices in your region.	6) Once you can see that it finds your GPS, tap on where it says HOLUX GPSlim236. If the GPS is not displayed click on refresh and try again.	7) Now that you have click on the GPS and its highlighted click on Next to continue.	8) Your passkey is 0000 numeric zero's. Please ensure you are not entering the letter o.


9)Now you need to tick the service Serial Port, this is the service that we want to use and the only service the GPS offers.	10)Once you have entered the passkey this means your PDA can talk directly to the GPS without having to enter the key constantly. Now we have to create a new Outgoing Port. Tap on the COM Port tabs on the bottom of the screen.	11)Now you can see you can create incoming and outgoing ports. Tap on New Outgoing Port as its an outgoing connection that we want create..	12)This will then display all the devices that you have setup, it will only show the devices that you can create a port with.


13) Now that the port has been created we need to assign it a port number. For the device that i am using the Exec the port is Com 0. Now you can select finish and exit Bluetooth Manager.	14) Now its time to setup TomTom. Tap either on the today screen icon or tap on start and then TomTom Navigator.	15) As you can see from the bottom left it has automatically found and connected to my GPS, if you see NO GPS DEVICE then continue with this guide. If you see GPS signal was lost then you do not have continue, you are finished.	16) Tap anywhere on the screen and you will get this menu appear. Now tap on the spanner to change preferences.


17) Preferences 1 of 6 I would take a couple of minutes to get familiar with menu pages as you will be using them in the near future.	18) Preferences 2 of 6	19) Preferences 3 of 6	20) Preferences 4 of 6 This is the one we want, click on the Show GPS status icon at the top left of the screen.


21) You are on the GPS status page now, this page you will be using a lot. This is the page where you can see how many satellites you have a lock with etc. Tap on the bottom left on Configure.	22) By default the TomTom Wireless GPS is selected, tap on the arrow to the right of the GPS. Keep tapping on this arrow until you get the Other Bluetooth GPS.	23) This does not look like your GPS but its generic, tap on select.	24) You will see the image below appear on your screen, again ensure that the GPS is turned on and within range. Tap on continue


25) Now we need to select the com port that we want the software too look at to connect to the GPS. As we already know the com port is COM0. Tap on the COM0 (it might go slow for a few seconds).	26) The bars below indicate that you are picking up satellites, don't worry if you do not get these straight away. It can take up to 45 minutes to get a lock. If you look top right you will see a small circle spinning round, this indicates that you are connected to the GPS. If this circle does not spin then something is wrong	27) The blue bars indicate the satellites you have a lock with. Top left of the screen you will see your coordinates which i have blanked out. You are now ready to start navigating.	28) As you can see from below the GPS has got a good lock considering that I am in doors and very overcast day.


29) Now you are finished. Remember to use the exit application button when you are finished running tomtom. To do this tap on the screen.	30) Main Menu 1 of 3 Tap on the arrow to the bottom right to continue through the menu pages.	31) Main Menu 2 of 3 Tap on the arrow to the bottom right to continue through the menu pages.	32) Main Menu 3 of 3 Tap on the Red Power button to exit the TomTom application.
